What is the Choctaw language?

Choctaw is a Muskogean language spoken by the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.


Choctaw alphabet

The Choctaw alphabet has these letters:

How to use the website

At the top of the page you can navigate to other sections using the navigation bar.

The first tab is “Browse”.

In the Browse dropdown menu you can see 'Categories', 'AZ Browse', and 'Random Word'.

In 'Categories', see groups of similar words, such as birds or kinship terms.

In 'AZ Browse', see the entire dictionary alphabetized.

In 'Random Word', see a random entry from the dictionary.

On the 'Stories' page, see and listen to recordings of different stories.

On the 'Interviews' page, listen to recordings of fluent Choctaw speakers being interviewed.

Under 'Languages', switch between seeing the website in the Choctaw language and the English language.

On every page, there is a 'Search' box where you can enter a Choctaw or English word to search for the definition and example sentences.
